Zebulon likes to shoot guns on his property in rural Macon County, Tennessee. His neighbor doesn’t like hearing Zebulon shoot his guns because it “agitates” him. So he calls the cops and tells them he heard gunshots on Zebulon’s property. He admits that he didn’t see shots fired into the air, but “assumes” they were fired into the air. Then the cops go onto Zebulon’s property, where he’s busy mowing his field. They tell him they aren’t there to take his gun. But actually, that’s exactly what they do. Then, while standing on this man’s property, holding his gun that they claimed they weren’t there to take, they demand to see his ID, even though he told them he didn’t fire any shots into the air, or do anything illegal. But he doesn’t want them there and invokes his Fourth Amendment rights, asking them to leave. But these cops brag about the fact that they could care less about the Fourth Amendment.

37 Days in Jail For Posting a Meme on Facebook
In America, we don’t jail people for political speech. Yet Larry Bushart spent 37 days behind bars simply for posting a meme in a Facebook group. Perry County, Tennessee Sheriff Nick Weems sent cops to Larry’s home to intimidate him over a Facebook meme he posted. But he wasn’t intimidated. He knew his rights and didn’t back down. So then the sheriff obtained an arrest warrant that he knew was false and had Larry arrested and then put in jail for over a month. Only after national public outrage did county officials drop the charges and set Larry free. But now Larry’s out for justice and he’s being helped by FIRE, a national nonprofit First Amendment advocacy organization, who has now filed a civil rights lawsuit on his behalf. I got a chance to talk with Larry’s lawyer about the case – what actually happened, why it was so egregious, and how you can help.

Trooper Learns DUI Suspect Is Diabetic… Arrests Him Anyway — Lawsuit
A sober man, who was actually a retired deputy suffering a diabetic crisis, was arrested for DUI by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The worst part about it is, this wasn’t just a mistake where a cop mistook a diabetic crisis for a driver being drunk. Brand new bodycam footage, given to me by the man’s lawyer, shows that this innocent man, Elmer Binkley, was arrested only after this 25 year old trooper (Ryan Nichols) learned that the man was suffering a diabetic crisis. He discovered the man was sober, and yet he arrested him anyway.

Retired Pastor with Dementia Dies After 9 HOURS in Restraint Chair (with a hood over his head)
Officers were dispatched to a business to assist an elderly customer who appeared to be suffering from dementia. At the scene, officers found him extremely confused. He told them the year was 1948 and that the president was George Washington. So they call his daughter to come pick him up. So how did things go so terribly wrong that day, that this 74 year old man ended up dying alone in a jail cell 9 hours later, confined in a restraint chair with a hood over his head? The story of Lester Isbill is one that could happen to anyone. He wasn’t a criminal. He was a good man. He had committed no crime. Yet he would nevertheless fall victim to this terrible death at the hands of the very people who were supposed to protect and care for him.

Off-Duty Cop Threatens Neighbors, Orders False Arrest, Over Escaped Dog | Suspension & Lawsuit
This footage was submitted by the criminal defense attorney involved in this case. This occurred in East Ridge, Tennessee. Kadron Locklin was transporting a disabled client to a home located on a suburban street. Upon arrival, the family’s dog got loose and ran down the street. Kadron assisted the family, finally catching up to the dog and securing it.
In the process, Kadron and two minor children from the home ran across the property of an off-duty police officer named Andrew Carter. Officer Carter exchanged words with Kadron and the children, ordering them off his property. Carter then called his cop buddies to the scene. Upon arrival, they immediately got aggressive and violent with Kadron – even before asking any questions.
